PROFESSIONAL OPEN HOUSE CHECK
LIST
1. Preparation
Lawn
cut, yards tidy, clean garage
Clean
closets, oven, etc.
Remove
dogs, cats, etc.
Do
minor repairs (painting, carpet
cleaning,
windows sills,
remove grease from driveway,
mildew from
showers, make sure faucets work
properly)
2. Directional Signs (The
key to a successful Open House!)
Put
up minimum 2-6 signs.
Place
signs leading to house from at
least two directions.
Place
signs at freeway exits close to
house where permitted.
After
placing signs, DRIVE THE ROUTE
YOURSELF,
making sure they
are easily visible and are not
hidden behind
trees, bushes,
telephone poles, etc.
3. Preparation (The day
of Open House)
Park
your car away from the house (or
allow room for buyer’s
vehicles).
Double
check to make sure the home
looks inviting.
Garage
doors should be down, front door
open.
Water
the front lawn of the house.
Patio
should be neat.
Air
out the interior with a
non-perfumed room deodorizer.
Turn
lights on.
Check
oven, closets, etc.
Keep
TV off, radio on at low level.
Fire
in fireplace if needed for
effects.
4. Holding the Open House
Establish
Rapport (get name, address,
phone number)
Assume
a positive attitude; control the
situation.
Create
a sense of urgency.
Ask
as many qualifying questions as
possible:
"This home is
$178,000. Is that what you’re
looking for?"
"This home has
three bedrooms. Is that what you
need?"
"Where are you
living now?
5. After the Open House
Pick
signs up.
Call your TRI-STAR agent with
names and numbers to follow up
on Monday.
